Everyone's focussed on Christmas, and though January seems far in the distance it's just around the corner. Don't miss the Osoyoos Larose wine dinner at Cru on January 12, 2011.

Naramata Wineries Spring Release

April 12 is the date for one of Vancouver's most anticipated wine events--the Naramata Wineries Spring Release in Vancouver. Tickets are $85 -- don't delay purchasing them because the event sells out quickly.

After a lull over the holidays, wine events for the new year are beginning to show their bright, sunny faces! I've added three new wine tasting events to the website, each hosted by the lovely, brilliant ladies of House Wine.

Australia: Back to the Roots on Friday, January 22nd, 2010
Australia: Catching the Next Wave on Friday, March 26th, 2010
Australia: Cool is Hot on Friday, May 14th, 2010

Tickets are $39 for each event, or $99 for the series of three.

Taste the World - an IVSA wine tasting event

The Import Vintners and Spirits Association (IVSA) holds numerous events throughout the year, but usually they're trade-only events, designed to introduce new products to sommeliers, serving staff, mixologists, and media. On January 25, however, they're co-hosting a glittering wine tasting event for charity at the Four Seasons Hotel. The event benefits Cambodia's Angkor Hospital for Children.

Steal of a Deal: 5 course winemaker's dinner for $99

This has got to be the wine foodie's bargain of the coming month: $99 all inclusive for a five-course winery dinner hosted by Rodney Strong Vineyards winemaker Rick Sayre.

Wines poured will include 2008 Charlotte’s Home Sauvignon Blanc, 2007 Reserve Chardonnay, 2007 Reserve Pinot Noir, 2006 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2005 Rockaway. Seasons in the Park Executive Chef Buddy Wolf creating a menu that will include include Mango Tuna Tartare, Pan Roasted Lac du Brome Duck Breast, and Grain Fed Bison Tenderloin.

Breast Cancer Fundraiser with Therapy Wines

On October 29, 2009, the Irashai Grill will be hosting a tasting of Therapy Vineyards wines accompanied by the Grill's own hors d’oeuvres and followed by chocolates from Mink Chocolates Inc. The event will benefit the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, BC/Yukon Chapter.

Event Details
A blind wine tasting of BC wines in 5 categories; crisp, aromatic, elegant, smooth and spicy. Each category will have two wines to taste and a small plate creation by the Garden ParTy Catering. Small plates will be paired with each wine category and feature BC wild, organic ingredients. Ticket sales will benefit Mount Pleasant Elementary School programs.

The event will be structured as a closed tasting. Groups of 25 guests will be admitted at the set times listed on their tickets. They will taste at each station and, then, be given a write up of each participating wine as they exit the tasting room. After tasting, guests can continue on to eight ½ restaurant lounge to relax and discuss.

Event of the month! UNDERCOVER

There are nearly 30 events still upcoming in October. If you can only attend one event this month this is my pick! UNDERCOVER, at Performance Works, a fundraiser for AIDS charities.

Targeting wine with the most “bang for your buck” (under $19.95), all wines will be “under cover” (hidden) throughout the tasting with patrons choosing their favourites via their palette rather than labels. During the last half hour the covers come off and all will be revealed.

A silent auction will give you an opportunity to "make a deal" while contributing to the cause and this year we will feature a "Treasure Trove". We will have 100 keys for sale at $10 each. Midway through the event "key owners" will be asked to come and try to unlock the trunk. The key that opens the lock will receive the prize contained inside.
